Anna Olivier, Montevideo, Uruguay
“I would certainly have faced gender discrimination during my campaign. In the focal group for qualitative research, many felt that I could not work with unions. There was always a problem that I did not have enough authority. Once, a journalist asked, “Do you really think that Montevideo is ready for a mayor’s wife?” When I came to work, a women’s rights group in Montevideo called the Communauthorus gave me the wooden key. When Durham ended up, they gave the same key to the steel race. Was a symbolic move. “
