Perhaps this explains why, during one of Iran’s state television cultural programs recorded in the era of the COVID pandemic, he referred to the death of the brother of Morteza—the famous singer living in Los Angeles—without mentioning Morteza by name. Suddenly, however, the host interrupted him, perhaps to prevent the conversation from reaching sensitive territory, and through an abrupt visual cut, the matter was left unresolved.
Mehdi Sepehr said that he began singing under the influence of his mother’s voice. According to him, she was considered an “intellectual” in her time and encouraged her son to begin each day by singing a cheerful song. Living in Ahvaz allowed him to continue his early singing experiences beyond school and into the city’s radio scene, where he encountered figures such as the famous singer Zia.
