There is no formal training required to become a host or hostess, although it is helpful to have some experience with hosting or working with the public. A host or hostess is usually trained during his or her first few days and weeks of work, and tasks will vary between restaurants. Most training is completed on the job, though there may be a short take-home component, such as an employee manual.
