Humorous portraits were replaced by mummies
After Egypt became part of the Roman Empire, many ancient customs changed. For example, burial masks gave their place to Fayum’s mummy portraits (pictured above). Thanks to the dry weather of the land of Egypt, these treacherous portraits were well preserved.
