Iran will face the rising number of aged women in the future, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ali Rabiee announced here on Sunday. Rabiee also said the number of illiterate aged women is more than men and they live mainly in less developed provinces. The minister added lifestyle is changing in Iran and problems of elderly people should be considered fundamentally.
Currently, a number of 6 million elderly people are living in Iran, Rabiee said. About 30 percent of this number is under the protection of supportive organizations and a number of 3,700,000 are retired, who are being supported by the Iranian Social Security Organization and Civil Servant Pension Funds (CSPF). Iran has made comprehensive studies on issues related to the elderly and it deals with elderly single women as a new phenomenon, he stated.
