The Day of Ashura is on the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar. It is commemorated by Shi’a Muslims as a day of mourning for the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Muhammad at the Battle of Karbala on 10 Muharram in the year 61 AH. In Iran the Commemoration of Husayn has become a national holiday. This pictorial is from the village of “Araze” in the Isfahan province, every year because of “Ashura/Tasua” volunteers in the village cook food referred to as “nazri” and offer it as a feast to their village mates participating in the religious ceremonies.
