The 42-year-old, who has been a Senator since 2016 and was a Representative previously, is contesting in the 2022 Philippine presidential election. To dedicate himself fully to his people and politics, Pacquiao formally retired from boxing on 29 September 2021 — 10 days after announcing his candidacy. Whether Pacquiao is able to script history in the political ring like he used to do in the ‘squared circle’ will become certain only next year.
