In the weeks leading up to the delivery, Farah received visits from prominent religious leaders and women of the court who offered traditional blessings and read surahs from the Qur’an. Special charms (such as taviz, small scrolls of Qur’anic verses in silver casing) were sewn into the folds of her garments. It was said that these blessings were meant to ensure not only a healthy delivery but the birth of a wise and just ruler for future.
