Pouria Khadem, born in 1999 in Mashhad, is a rising composer and pianist who has chosen to carve out a unique path in the world of classical music, diverging from his family’s prestigious legacy in wrestling. He is the son of Rasoul Khadem, a revered Olympic gold medalist and former head coach of national freestyle wrestling team, and the grandson of Mohammad Khadem, one of legendary wrestling coaches. Coming from such a family, many assumed Pouria would naturally follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Instead, he embraced the world of music—a bold and defining choice.
The piece was performed by the Tehran Symphony Orchestra in 2022 and served a charitable purpose, with proceeds supporting a foundation managed by his father, highlighting Pouria’s commitment to blending artistry with social responsibility. Pouria Khadem stands as a unique figure in cultural landscape: a young man who honors the spirit of identity through music rather than sport. His works, while often instrumental, convey narratives of resistance, pride, and legacy—qualities deeply ingrained in national ethos. Despite the inevitable comparisons to his father and grandfather, Pouria has not tried to escape their shadows; rather, he illuminates them from a different angle.
