A Forgotten Voice

It was through Farrokhzad’s support that Mahnaz was given the opportunity to appear on television, specifically on the popular program Cheshmak (or Cheshmak-style show formats of that era), bringing her voice into living rooms across the country at a time when Iranian pop culture was flourishing. Farrokhzad’s platforms were instrumental in showcasing new talent and helping emerging artists reach wider audiences during a vibrant period of musical innovation.

Despite this early exposure and the promise shown in her performances, Mahnaz did not achieve the enduring fame of some of her contemporaries. Many factors contributed to her relative obscurity — from changes in the music industry to shifting cultural tastes and the later upheavals faced after the 1979 revolution — leading to her becoming an under-recognized figure in the history of music.
