Albano Carrisi, known professionally as Al Bano, was born on May 20, 1943, in Cellino San Marco, a small town in southern Italy. From humble beginnings, Al Bano grew up surrounded by traditional Italian folk music, which deeply influenced his future career. He moved to Milan in the early 1960s, where his strong tenor voice and passion for performing quickly drew attention in Italy’s growing pop scene. Romina Power, born on October 2, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, USA, came from a completely different world. She is the daughter of two Hollywood stars — actor Tyrone Power and actress Linda Christian.
After her parents’ divorce, Romina spent much of her youth in Italy, developing a love for art, poetry, and music. Her cosmopolitan upbringing and artistic sensibility would later complement Al Bano’s Mediterranean charm perfectly. The two met in 1967 on the set of the film Nel Sole (“In the Sun”), which shared its title with one of Al Bano’s hit songs. Their chemistry, both on-screen and off, was undeniable. They married in 1970, beginning not only a romantic partnership but also one of the most iconic artistic collaborations in European pop history.
