Forgotten Mountain Retreat

Today, Darband is still a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike. The cafés and restaurants that line its rocky trails carry a hint of what the Darband Hotel once represented — a connection between city and nature, tradition and modernity, past and present. Though the hotel itself may no longer stand as it did, its spirit endures in the collective memory of those who lived through a more hopeful, leisurely time in  history.

The Darband Hotel was never isolated; it lived and breathed with the rhythm of the surrounding village. In the mornings, the sound of vendors climbing the mountain paths filled the air — selling mulberries, walnuts, and fresh herbs gathered from the slopes. Children played near the stream that ran beside the hotel’s garden, their laughter mingling with the soft rush of water. Hikers and mountaineers, their boots dusty from the trails leading up to Tochal, would stop for tea in the hotel’s courtyard before descending back to the city.
