There are perhaps those who are under the impression that café and café culture is an imported concept from the West and a commercial and cultural imitation of the cafés in France and Russia. It may be true that modern cafés were initially built and maintained on Western models but the notion of people getting together in public and conversing over tea or coffee could be traced back to as early as the 17th century in Iran.
