There are now more than 1,000 cases in the United States – eight times more than just a week earlier. At least 38 people have died of the virus nationwide. Global stock markets have been sliding on fears coronavirus would slam economic growth. U.S. stocks measured by the S&P 500 were down nearly 5% on Wednesday, and after Mr. Trump’s address from the Oval Office, S&P futures were indicating stocks would open down another 4% Thursday morning.
