She has, over the past decade, fairly made the lucrative genre of glossy TV thrillers her own in shows such as Big Little Lies, The Undoing and The Perfect Couple, all of which went through her own Blossom production company. This year marked her debut as the detective Kay Scarpetta on Prime Video. Kidman has now been one of the best-paid and most well-known actresses for so long that she has little memory of life before fame. “My memory of it not being that is quite blurry, because I was really young,” she tells Vogue.
“Because of who I married at such a young age, I was thrust into it since I was 22,” she says in reference to her first husband, Tom Cruise, from whom she separated in 2001. “We just fell madly in love… [but] then I was his ‘wife’.” She refers to a sense of having thrown her career away for that marriage, but the Nicole Kidman back catalogue is proof not only of correcting its course but of her impressive work ethic.
