Privilege, Pressure, and Purpose

Family plays a central role in shaping the values and attitudes of wealthy Canadian youth. In many cases, parents who built or inherited wealth emphasize discipline, responsibility, and long-term planning. They may involve their children early in business discussions, investments, or philanthropy, teaching them how money works rather than simply providing it. Some families encourage their children to work part-time jobs or internships despite their financial security.

This helps them understand the value of effort and independence. Others, however, provide everything, which can sometimes limit a young person’s ability to develop resilience and self-reliance. Wealth often influences social networks. Canadian rich kids tend to socialize with peers from similar backgrounds, especially in private schools, elite universities, and exclusive clubs. These environments naturally create strong professional and social connections that can last a lifetime.
