While peacekeeping has helped stabilize many regions, missions can be dangerous and complex due to ongoing violence and political instability. In 2015, the United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. These goals address global issues such as poverty, hunger, quality education, gender equality, clean energy, climate action, and peace and justice. The SDGs encourage countries, organizations, and individuals to work together for sustainable and inclusive development.
The United Nations plays a key role in protecting human rights worldwide. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) sets out fundamental rights and freedoms for all people. UN bodies monitor human rights violations, support victims, and encourage governments to uphold international standards. Agencies like the UN Human Rights Council work to raise awareness and promote accountability.
