Rob Jetten

As climate minister, Jetten worked on policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and encouraging the transition to cleaner energy. He later continued his work in parliament and led D66 during the 2025 general election. Following the formation of a new coalition government, he became prime minister in February 2026. Some of the major issues associated with Jetten’s political career include climate policy, renewable energy, economic development, and European cooperation. His party, D66, generally supports a pro-European approach and liberal social policies.

As prime minister, Jetten faces the challenge of turning government plans into practical results while building support across parliament. His government must address a range of national issues, including housing, public services, economic pressures, and the country’s energy transition. Jetten has also attracted public attention as an openly gay political leader. His appointment as prime minister marked a historic moment for Dutch politics: at 38, he became the youngest prime minister in the country’s history and its first openly gay prime minister.
