Newlywed Hunter Biden and his wife joined Joe Biden at a campaign fundraiser in California on Friday — weeks after the younger Biden’s turbulent personal life drew national attention and questions about whether it would jeopardize his father’s shot at the presidency. It was the first appearance the pair have made on the campaign trail with his father, campaign sources said. Hunter and his wife, Melissa Cohen, attended the afternoon fundraiser attended by dozens of donors at Pasadena city councilmember John J. Kennedy’s house in the southern California city.
Some Republicans have asserted that Hunter used his family name to gain business with foreign entities, particularly in Ukraine and China. However, several investigations and reports (including a Senate Republican report) found that while his position was “problematic,” there’s not clear proof his role changed U.S. foreign policy. Moreover, a former FBI informant who made some of the more explosive bribery claims about Burisma later admitted to fabricating them.
