A Director is expected to have a working knowledge of each primary part of making a movie, mainly so that they can competently converse with the individuals in charge of those departments. That’s why part of their day-to-day duties during production will generally involve working with the aforementioned Cinematographer, Production Designer, and Head Costume Designer, as well as the Producer(s) of the production. Other key figures with whom the Director will typically work with on a production are the Key Grip, Gaffer, and Production Sound Mixer.
