Persepolis football team earned a 2-1 victory over Esteghlal thanks to a late header from Omid Alishah here on Sunday. Sajjad Shahbazzadeh put the Blues into a surprise lead after 44 minutes. Esteghlal created several chances afterward but its strikers didn’t take advantage of their chances.
In the 74th minute, unmarked Persepolis captain Mohammad Nouri found the back of the net. Nine minutes later, Omid Alishah opened Esteghlal’s goal with a header. Alishah took his shirt after the goal and was sent off due to receiving his second yellow card. Right away 10-man Persepolis was forced to defend deep. Esteghlal put its arch-rival under pressure but failed to equalize the match. “In the first half, we didn’t play good but after interval, Persepolis was the better team,” Persepolis coach Hamid Derakhshan said in the post-match news conference.“I am satisfied with the result but we could have scored even more goals,” he added.
