Loren grew up in the small town of Pozzuoli, near Naples, amid the hardships of World War II. Her early life was marked by poverty and resilience—qualities that would later define many of her most powerful roles. She first entered the spotlight as a beauty pageant contestant in her teens, which led to modeling and small film roles. Her breakthrough came in the 1950s when she signed a contract with the Italian film producer Carlo Ponti, whom she would later marry.
