Nikolai is the son of Cyrus Pahlavi—grandson of Princess Ashraf Pahlavi, twin sister of the last Shah and Anna Pahlavi, originally from Ukraine. According to Vanity Fair Spain, Nikolai is multilingual, speaking Russian, French, and English, and is also learning Persian. He attends boarding school during the week and spends weekends at the family home in Paris, where his father and grandmother immerse him in Persian culture. The Pahlavi dynasty ruled from 1925 until the 1979 Revolution when the Shah was deposed and the royal family went into exile.
