A Life of Exile, Privacy, and Quiet Resilience

Farahnaz Pahlavi is the eldest daughter of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the last Shah, and Empress Farah Diba. As a member of former royal family, her life has been closely connected to the country’s modern history, especially before and after the 1979  Revolution. During her childhood, Farahnaz was raised within royal palaces and received a high-level education, combining cultural traditions with Western-style schooling. She later continued her education abroad, particularly in the United States.

Compared to some other members of the family, Farahnaz chose to maintain a relatively private academic and professional life. Unlike her brother Reza Pahlavi, who remains politically active, Farahnaz Pahlavi has largely avoided public and political roles. She is known for keeping a low media profile and rarely giving interviews. Farahnaz has maintained close ties with her mother, Empress Farah, and her surviving siblings. The family has faced significant personal tragedies, including the deaths of her sister Leila (2001) and brother Ali-Reza (2011), which deeply affected her.
