Azar Hekmat-Shoar, whose real name was Azar Taj Dehghani, was born in Tabriz in 1314 (1935/36). In 1340 (1961/62), she entered the world of cinema at a young age, largely because of her beautiful and suitable appearance. During the 1960s, her husband opposed her presence in the film industry, and their dispute eventually became a subject of discussion in the press and cinematic circles. The controversy continued to such an extent that, on one occasion, her husband appeared on the set of one of her films accompanied by a police officer, seeking to have his wife arrested for alleged failure to comply with her marital obligations.
Despite her abilities and merits, Azar did not receive the recognition she deserved and left the cinema in 1349 (1970/71). Her private life was not a peaceful one. Due to family disputes and her husband’s opposition to her professional activities, the marriage eventually ended in separation. They had two children, a daughter and a son. The actress was active in cinema only during the 1960s. She played refined, well-composed roles without becoming involved in scandals or controversies. Although she never became a major star, she performed many leading roles.
