The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is one of the world’s largest and most recognized humanitarian organizations, dedicated to alleviating human suffering and protecting life and health, especially during emergencies. Founded in 1863 by Henry Dunant, the movement was inspired by his experiences witnessing the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino, where wounded soldiers were left without adequate medical care.
The Red Cross operates under seven fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. These principles guide its actions in providing assistance without discrimination based on nationality, race, religion, or political beliefs. The organization’s work spans a wide range of activities. It responds to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes by delivering emergency relief, including food, shelter, and medical aid.
