The head of the World Food Program, David Beasley, said that around 13 million people were heading toward starvation in Yemen due to the protracted conflict and lack of funding. The U.N. humanitarian office has reported that its 2021 humanitarian plan for Yemen received $2.27 billion out of its $3.85 billion requirement, the lowest funding level since 2015. Meanwhile, Russia’s attack on Ukraine is continuing in its second week after forces began a large-scale invasion on February 24 in what is the first major land conflict in Europe in decades. Hundreds of civilians are reported to have died or to have been wounded with children among the dead. More than one million Ukrainians are believed to have left the country and crossed the border to neighboring nations.
