Tara Aghdashloo is a multidisciplinary artist: a writer, director, producer, curator, poet, and visual artist. She was born in Tehran and later emigrated to Toronto, Canada. She also lives and works in London. Her education includes a BA in journalism (with interest in political philosophy / literature) from Toronto Metropolitan University, and an MA from SOAS (University of London), focused on media, global politics and communications. Her first narrative short film. It was commissioned by the BFI Network, supported by Canada Council of the Arts, and Toronto Arts Council. It premiered at Cinequest Festival.
A narrative short based on a spoken‐word poem; premiered at the Norwich Film Festival. Her first Persian‐language film. Produced by OPC Productions and Intermission Films. It has received a number of festival selections and awards. Tara has published essays, articles, poems, reviews. Her poetry collection This Is Not A Pomegranate was published in Toronto. Her writing often deals with issues like identity, displacement, activism, women’s rights, the Middle East, and cultural aesthetics. Her work tends to explore nuanced characters, the complexity of human desire, contradictions in identity, displacement, and questions of representation.
