His portrayal of the doomed lover in films like Andaz, Baabul, Deedar, Jogan and others earned him a nickname ‘tragedy king’. The 1998 film ‘Qila’ was his last appearance onscreen. Dilip Kumar was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1991 for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema. He was also awarded Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
