Dr. Brian Nahed specializes in Brain Tumors and Spinal Disorders. As an attending neurosurgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital, he has appointments with the MGH Cancer Center, Stephen E. and Catherine Pappas Center for Neurooncology and is a faculty member of the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Brian Nahed’s research focuses on brain tumors and metastatic disease. In collaboration with Drs. Daniel Haber and Shyamala Maheswaran, Dr. Nahed’s research has received several grants supporting his laboratory effort at the MGH Cancer Center. Dr. Nahed is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and serves on national committees for the Tumor Section and Council of State Neurological Surgeons.
Her father, John Kerry, was at the time an influential US Senator. The now Special Presidential Envoy for Climate had served in the Vietnam war and the visit was meant to instill in his teenage daughter an understanding of the stark divide between their world and the developing one. After finishing courses at Yale University and Harvard Medical School, she started volunteering in Uganda and Rwanda. “There just weren’t enough healthcare providers and the ones there were were often flying in and flying out, never really transferring skills or investing in those places,” she thought to herself.
