Iryana was born approximately seven months after the death of her father, Prince Alireza, in January 2011. Her birth was therefore a particularly emotional event for the Pahlavi family. Her grandmother, Empress Farah, later spoke about meeting Iryana and described the importance of having a part of her late son continue through his daughter. As a granddaughter of Mohammad Reza Shah and Farah Pahlavi, Iryana belongs to the younger generation of the Pahlavi family, whose history is closely connected with modern history.
She is also the niece of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi and has three older cousins—Noor, Iman, and Farah Pahlavi. Princess Iryana Leila Pahlavi was born on July 26, 2011, in Boston, Massachusetts. She is the only child of Prince Alireza Pahlavi and Raha Didevar. Her father was the younger son of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the last Shah, and Empress Farah Pahlavi.
