Alongside the films of director Farrokh Gaffary, which I’ve not yet been able to track down, this debut feature by Ebrahim Golestan stands as the first attempt at art cinema. And despite few people knowing about it, it easily deserves a place alongside the best modernist and existentialist of Sixties world cinema.
