Miss World 1969 was the 19th edition of the prestigious Miss World beauty pageant. It took place on 27 November 1969 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom. The event marked two important milestones in the pageant’s history: it was the first Miss World competition held at the Royal Albert Hall and the first to be broadcast in colour by the BBC.
Fifty contestants from around the world competed for the coveted crown. The winner was Eva Rueber-Staier of Austria, who became the first Austrian woman to win the Miss World title. She was crowned by renowned actor Omar Sharif, rather than the outgoing Miss World, Penelope Plummer of Australia. Eva’s victory brought international recognition to Austria and opened the door to a successful career in modeling and acting.
