The first runner-up was Gail Renshaw from the United States, while Christa Margraf of Germany finished as the second runner-up. Other finalists included Pamela Patricia Lord of Guyana and Marzia Piazza of Venezuela, who placed third and fourth runners-up, respectively. The 1969 pageant featured 50 contestants representing countries from across the globe. It also welcomed Seychelles as a debut participant, while several nations returned after previous absences.
Special awards were presented to Gloria Leticia Hernández of Mexico, who won Miss Photogenic, and Maud Alin of Belgium, who received the Miss Personality award. Miss World 1969 is remembered as a landmark event in the history of the competition because of its new venue, its pioneering colour television broadcast, and the crowning of Austria’s first Miss World. The pageant further strengthened Miss World’s reputation as one of the world’s leading international beauty competitions.
