The bitter fate of presidents

The President is the figurehead of the club. In most cases, the President takes ultimate responsibility. They, with the rest of the Committee, essentially shape the aims of the club for the year. They will usually chair meetings (if absent a Vice President or Secretary can do this) and support the work of other committee members. A good President should have a fair idea of who is doing what and keep an eye on all club activity as they are responsible for ensuring that a club or society works effectively.  They should be able to provide leadership to the club/society and help build an effective society that works well, grows in membership, that is fun and accessible for all.

The authors of the U.S. Constitution only sketched a loose outline of the presidency when they defined the federal government in 1787. They expected the first presidents to work out the details of the job with Congress and the Supreme Court. As a result, the first officeholders helped shape the way presidents make decisions, fight wars, work with Congress, add territory to the country, and even entertain.
