A dentist is a healthcare provider who specializes in oral health. They diagnose and treat conditions involving a patient’s teeth and gums in addition to providing preventative health care. Many dentists are general or family practitioners who offer services to diverse patient populations while other dentists specialize in particular demographics or treatments. For instance, a dentist might specialize in maxillofacial surgery to perform procedures on the bones, teeth or soft tissues.
