Some artists’ careers appear to ascend quicker than others. But even in the cases of an “overnight success,” there is likely a heavily-resourced team behind the scenes making sure that the gears are turning and creating opportunities. Odds are you’ll have to take the long-tail approach, but don’t get discouraged if things aren’t taking off as quickly, or smoothly, as you had hoped. If having a career in the music industry is really your passion, be open to opportunities (and 9 to 5’s) that aren’t what you had originally set out to do but keep you in the industry until you’re able to make the shift to your passion.
