Babak Amini was born in April 1970. He started his musical education at age 10, learning flamenco guitar under the mentorship of Shahrokh Partovi. Later, he continued studies with Simon Aivazian, also honing his skills in classical and flamenco guitar styles. His first solo instrumental album, Gray Rain, was released in 1990; followed by Blue of the Rain. His third album, Shadow of My Own, incorporated vocals, using poetry by Hafez, Molana, Babataher, & Nima.
Amini has worked with many celebrated Iranian singers and musicians, both in Iran and in the diaspora: Googoosh, Faramarz Aslani, Ebi, Soli, Sattar, Helen, Morteza, among others. He has held roles such as musical director and band leader in several tours and performances. In Canada, he continued his work: leading Googoosh’s band, touring, teaching guitar, composing, arranging, and performing in many live concerts.
