In her acting, she is drawn to complex female characters—women who carry secrets, scars, dreams. Whether in a short film or stage production, Bushra brings an emotional intelligence and stillness to her roles, allowing silence and expression to carry as much weight as dialogue. Bushra Dasturnejad’s artistry is deeply rooted in her identity—shaped by a diasporic lineage, a love for language, and an early immersion in storytelling. Raised between cultures and continents, her work often explores the tension and tenderness of in-betweenness: between tradition and modernity, silence and expression, exile and home.
She began writing poetry at the age of thirteen, using it as a private sanctuary for thoughts she couldn’t yet speak aloud. Over time, her words began to find public spaces—first in open mics, then in publications, and eventually on stage and screen. Trained in both classical theater and experimental performance, Bushra brings a hybrid sensibility to her craft. She is just as comfortable performing Shakespeare as she is improvising in movement-based pieces or delivering monologues that blur the line between poem and script.
