Before the tram system, the same Belgian company constructed the Ray railway line, connecting the capital to the city of Ray. This project laid the foundation for further transportation advancements in the region. City saw its first electric lighting system in 1880 (1258 AH), thanks to Mirza Ali Khan Amin al-Molk, who built a small power plant. The electricity initially lit royal palaces and parts of the Arg neighborhood, paving the way for larger power plants, such as the one built by Amin al-Zarb II after the Constitutional Revolution.
