Social life among affluent youth in Ottawa often revolves around exclusivity. House parties in upscale neighborhoods, ski trips to Mont-Tremblant, and summer travel to Europe or the U.S. are common experiences. Access—to cars, cottages, internships, and connections—plays a major role in shaping their lifestyle. While some embrace this privilege openly, others downplay it, blending into the city’s generally modest culture.

However, this environment isn’t without pressure. Expectations can be high, with many students pushed toward careers in law, medicine, business, or politics. There’s often an unspoken assumption of success, which can create stress and a sense of living within a predetermined path. For some, the challenge isn’t access to opportunity—but the weight of it.
