Aydin Aghdashloo (b. 1940) is an ethnic-Azeri painter, author, art critic, art historian and graphic designer. He currently lives Capital and lectures in different Universities besides his professional work. Aydin Aghdashloo is one of most prominent contemporary artists, known for his unique ability to intertwine Persian artistic heritage with modern and surreal elements. Born on October 30, 1940, in Rasht, Aghdashloo has cultivated a multifaceted career as a painter, art critic, author, and cultural historian.
Aghdashloo was appointed by the Shahbanu (Empress), Farah Pahlavi, as the “Head of Artistic Affairs of Shahbanu’s Special Bureau”. His responsibilities included purchase of artworks from contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet for the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art. He also helped establish the Reza Abbasi Museum in 1977 and was the head of the museum until 1979.
