The Martial arts in China have enjoyed a long and celebrated past, tracing its history back more than three thousand years. The first written record of systematic martial arts training was produced during the Han Dynasty in a book titled Han Shi I Chih. Exercises were developed for a variety of reasons. Some exercises were developed for practical defense and combat. Other exercises were developed to maintain good mental, spiritual and psychological health. These varied exercises were further developed, added to, and passed on until they developed into the hundreds of styles of Chinese Martial arts seen and practiced today.
