Grandson of Makarem Shirazi

Karimi began his professional career with Fath Tehran before moving to Persepolis FC in 1998, one most popular clubs. His performances there quickly made him a national sensation, combining agility, close control, and an ability to take on multiple defenders with ease. In 2001, Karimi moved to the United Arab Emirates to play for Al-Ahli Dubai, where he won the Asian Player of the Year Award in 2004 — a recognition of his dominance in Asian football. His outstanding form caught the attention of European clubs, leading to a transfer to Bayern Munich in 2005.

Karimi made his debut for the  national team in 1998 and went on to earn 127 caps, scoring 38 goals. He represented in multiple tournaments, including the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and was a key player in the AFC Asian Cup campaigns of 2000, 2004, and 2007. His memorable solo goals and ability to turn games around made him one  most beloved sports icons. After leaving Bayern, Karimi had stints with Qatar SC, Persepolis, Schalke 04, and Tractor Sazi before retiring from professional football in 2014. He later pursued a coaching career and became involved in social and political activism, often speaking out on issues affecting society and sports.
