In recent years, Canada has become an even more attractive destination for immigrants as the United States, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, curtailed several immigration programs, including those for refugees, asylum seekers, and temporary workers. However, pandemic-related travel restrictions, coupled with President Joe Biden’s efforts to reform U.S. immigration policy and increase the annual refugee cap, could reduce the number of people seeking to immigrate to Canada.
