An immigration officer primarily works in an office setting and assists with immigration processes, but their job may occasionally require them to travel or appear in court. Immigration officers most often work in office settings for federal, state or local government agencies. Their primary objectives are to facilitate the United States immigration system and identify potential threats or fraud attempts.

Immigration information officers work with immigrants who meet the legal qualifications to enter or reside in the United States. This type of officer may help immigrants fill out their applications, check applications for the required information and discuss immigration options with applicants. It’s also important for these officers to review and determine if an applicant provided any inaccurate or misleading information on their documents. An immigration officer, FDNS, has an assignment to work directly with the Office of Fraud Detection and National Security. This type of officer identifies misleading or false information on asylum, citizenship or visa applications.
