The premiere was the 73rd Royal Film Performance delivered by the Film and TV Charity in its over 100-year history. The last Royal Film Performance was the premiere of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II in November 2024, which was attended by King Charles, who took over as patron of the charity following the death of his mother and predecessor, Queen Elizabeth. While not a patron of the Film and TV Charity, Prince William is President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), which supports and develops the production of film, TV and video games in the U.K. Digger was filmed at Pinewood Studios, located in the English village of Iver Heath.
The actor also previously met the late Prince Philip in 2017 during a dinner marking the 75th Anniversary of The Outward Bound Trust at Buckingham Palace. However, he may share the strongest bond with William, whom he also invited to a private screening of Top Gun: Maverick ahead of the official premiere, after hearing the prince was a fan of the 1986 original.
