Nikol Pashinyan

Nikol Pashinyan is an Armenian politician, journalist, and reform advocate who has served as the Prime Minister of Armenia since May 8, 2018. He rose to international prominence after leading the peaceful 2018 Armenian Velvet Revolution, a nationwide protest movement that resulted in the resignation of long-time leader Serzh Sargsyan. Pashinyan is widely recognized for his anti-corruption agenda, democratic reforms, and efforts to modernize Armenia’s political and economic systems.

Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan was born on June 1, 1975, in the town of Ijevan, Armenia, then part of the Soviet Union. He attended Yerevan State University to study journalism but was expelled before completing his degree because of his political activism. Despite not graduating, he built a successful career in journalism and became known for his investigative reporting and criticism of government corruption.
