Green coffee buyers work with coffee growers to sample coffee and determine what coffee beans a roasting company will purchase. They may travel to other countries to taste new types of coffee and learn more about the growers. It’s important for green coffee buyers to have an in-depth knowledge of both coffee and business practices. They build and manage relationships, liaise between growers and roasters, manage inventory, negotiate contracts and pricing, oversee shipping and processing protocols and handle a variety of paperwork.
