Sepidah Moafi: There’s a list of things that drew me to this. It was the writing. It was the story. It was being able to explore these relationships and this character throughout time. It was my character’s backstory, which [resonated with] me. Her [being] an Iranian immigrant, me coming from an Iranian refugee family that were directly affected by the regime — there were a number of reasons why I was sort of sucked in, but I think one thing that’s been on my mind a lot is just AI and its manifestations and the potential: Where we’re headed and where we are actually in many countries, including the United States, and how it can be tempting to give up freedoms for a notion of security.
